[comp.sys.next] Testimonials wanted from experienced Mac and NeXT programmers

Pete Gontier (6600pete@ucsbuxa.ucsb.edu) (05/04/90)

The Santa Barbara, California area NeXT user's group is putting together
a newsletter.

We need testimonials from people know both the Mac and NeXT fairly well with
respect to programming. Specifically, we are looking for those who feel
strongly that the NeXT is the far superior development platform. More
broadly, we are looking for testimonials from those who feel the NeXT is
quite possibly the best development platform ever built.

I am personally a Mac developer, and in the past I have been a NeXT-basher
on UseNet. More out of ignorance than anything else! Rest assured this is
no dishonest ploy and your comments will be treated with respect, regardless
of my own employment and/or past comments. Feel free to write me beforehand
for further reassurance and I will supply the address of the user group
coordinator.

The newsletter will be sent out to respondents when it is finished. It will
be in FrameMaker format (if it proves to be too large, we will send only the
article which contains the testimonials). We cannot honor requests to send out
the newsletter to non-respondents, as we would be swamped.

If you are interested in contributing some input, please send your comments
along with a brief discussion of who you are and what you are doing with
the NeXT to the address below.

What in the world is the point of this? If you had stopped at "...know both
the Mac and Next fairly well with respect to programming." it might have been
an interesting newsletter. By _pre-selecting_ the group and restricting it to
those who prefer the Next development environment, it renders the newsletter
somewhat meaningless. Propaganda really.

Who will read it? People who think the Next has a great development
environment? That's preaching to the converted: fun, but rather without point.
Or should it be read by people who are unconvinced of the Next's development
platform's superiority? I would assume that is what you're aiming for. But
are you going to tell those people that the only people who were put in the
newsletter were those who said what you wanted them to say? Not terribly
convincing, if I were trying to decide between the two.

Of course, this doesn't go to the merits of your opinion. NextStep is indeed
more sophisticated than MacApp is some ways.
