[comp.sys.next] New Versions of Unknown and NLoad

lane@sumex-aim.stanford.edu (Christopher Lane) (05/07/90)

I've put new versions of the Unknown and NLoad applications on the
submissions directory of the cs.orst.edu archive.

The new version of Unknown incorporates the change I mentioned earlier,
adding in the functionality that Jiro Nakamura hinted at in his Uncompress
article in the latest Buzzings (#5). This allows you to assign Unix
command line programs to be executed when various file types (currently
*.tar, *.Z, and *.uu) are double clicked in the browser.

It still retains the previous functionality of Unknown, that of assigning
icons to file types that no one else 'owns' (or reassigning those that are
owned to make local corrections). The 'make' sequence has changed as has
the format of the Unknown.iconinfo file, see the README file for details.
There are several icon additions and changes as well.

The new version of NLoad has slightly cleaner code and a graphic optimization
(pswrap) provided by John G. Myers (jgm@fed.expres.cs.cmu.edu). Functionally
is the same, just more efficient.

You might want to wait a day or so before grabbing these as they migrate
from the submissions to the sources directory.
