[comp.sys.next] Optical Disk Woes Again

flur@duke.gatech.edu (Peter W. Flur) (05/08/90)

I've taken two old optical disks and re-formatted them using the disk
utility. When I try to write large files (~60M) to them for backup, I
get the following messages relatively frequently. Could someone
explain what it means and how to correct the problem?

May 7 12:45:31 duke mach: od0a: read failed (linear encoder failed) block 104440 phys block 105752 (10758:0:8)
May 7 12:45:31 duke mach: od0?: write re-spin (invalid or unimplemented command) block 0 phys block 0 (4149:0:0)
May 7 12:45:55 duke mach: od0a: read re-spin (linear encoder failed) block 105176 phys block 106488 (10804:0:8)
May 7 12:46:10 duke mach: IO error on pageout: error = 5.
May 7 12:46:10 duke mach: vnode_pageout: failed!
May 7 12:46:31 duke mach: od0a: write re-spin (linear encoder failed) block 104408 phys block 105720 (10756:0:8)
