[comp.sys.next] Help! NeXT disk re-spins.

carlson@lance.tis.llnl.gov (John Carlson) (06/27/90)

We've had some problems with our optical disk lately. The
disk spins down and then spins up again. Slow things down by quite a bit...
Should I get the drive serviced, or is something else wrong?

Here's /usr/adm/messages:

You have a problem with dust in your OD. We had the same probs here @ Miami.
You can find a doc telling you how to strip & clean the OD at j.cc.purdue.edu
or I will send it to you. It's not a big deal, but it could be a little
nerve wracking if you don't like hardware things.
