Please people, it is not a floptical that is on a standard NeXT computer.
A "floppy" disk was so called to differentiate it from a "disk" (they were
not called "hard-disks" until long after floppies came into existance).
There is such a thing as a floptical that is a floppy disk with, I seem to
recall, servo tracks that are optically read (for tracking only, the data
is still read magnetically by head contact).  These flopticals are being
developed to put more information on a slightly modfied floppy disk.
I cannot remember the name of the company (or companies) that are doing
this development.
Don't bother to post followups to this unless you have FACTS.  A
Cannon/NeXT Optical disk is about as "floppy" as yoru average manhole
cover.
