I just looked in my console window for grins and saw the message: "Jul 18 16:14:55 mendez mach: /Users/nash/OpticalDisk: optimization changed from SPACE to TIME" This makes me think that the Optical drive can operate in two modes. Personally I want to always be in 'Optimized for time' mode. I rarely need all of the storage on a given disk, but I hate waiting for it. Is there any way to set the mode you prefer? Richard V. This is NOT a feature of the optical drive--it is a feature of the Berkeley Fast File System. If the system is changing things on you, you're probably hovering very close to 90% full. Time optimization is the default on most filesystems; see the man page for "newfs" for more information and metainformation. -=EPS=-
