[net.auto] net.auto.tech

saltiel@cdstar.UUCP (Jack Saltiel) (08/26/85)

I agree. After reading net.auto for four weeks it's obvious to me
that a subgroup devoted to techincal matters should be created. My
views and actions relating to radar detectors, DWI, and such
matters are known, quite well, to myself, and I don't want to
discuss them any longer :-). I would rather devote my time on the
net to techical auto issues, like how do I get 60 more horsepower
out of my 911??

Take the junk out of the exhaust and use real petrol - should be good for
70 bhp or so. :-)

Does anyone know how to go about formally requesting a new newsgroup?

Response to the idea of net.auto.tech have fallen into one of two catagories:

	(1) Form net.auto.tech for technical discussions about automobiles
ie. my problem is. this is how it works. Road tests.
Leave all other auto related discussions in net.auto.

	(2) Form net.driving or net.auto.driving for discussions concerning
use of automobiles and roads. ie. DWI, & 55mph limit.
Leave all other auto related discussions in net.auto.

I would like to pick the most popular solution above 1 or 2 or variation of,
and submit a formal request. Any help would be appreciated.

I vote for (2).

I, too, would like to see net.auto "split" in some way... the *endless*
diatribes and discussions on radar detectors, the 55 mph limit,
insurance, DWI, etc, have become tiresome.

Consider this one more vote for creation of a "net.driving" (or whatever)
group for those topics, leaving "net.auto" for tech. discussions,
fix-it questions, new model Qs & As, and so forth.

For all of you who responded to my suggestion for a net.auto.tech,
and those who haven't made any comments yet but who have a
preference one way or the other: I sought advice from our
system administrator regarding starting a new group. Apparently
proposals for new group are supposed to be discussed in
net.news.group and if the discussion (votes) seem to favor the
new group, someone (system administrator) will create it. Its
not real clear to me who is to make the decision, or what
criteria is to be used in the evaluation.

Anyway, if you are in favor of splitting net.auto into two
groups, one for technical discussions, the other for non-technical
you should subcribe to net.news.group and post your opinion there.
I originally suggested net.auto.tech as a technical sub-group of
net.auto; others have since suggested net.driving for the non-technical
discussion, leaving the technical stuff in net.auto - I have no
strong preference either way. I guess if you are opposed to a
split, you should also let your voice be heard.

I vote for net.auto.tech !!

I you create net.driving you will have the same situation as now, but
the 'boring' articles will be posted in two places (remember net.general?)
