NextAnswers@next.com (08/04/90)
The July release of NextAnswers is now available. NextAnswers is NeXT Technical Support's collection of answers to commonly asked technical questions about the NeXT Computer System. The topics covered include system administration, programming, and NeXT applications. When incorporated into Digital Librarian, NextAnswers will supplement the existing on-line and printed documentation, further helping you to understand and apply the power of the NeXT Computer. We recommend that you obtain the latest release of NextAnswers and have it installed on the NeXT computers at your site. The July NextAnswers is now available on the following Internet archive servers: ________________________________________________________ hostname IP address directory ________________________________________________________ cs.orst.edu 128.193.32.1 pub/next/documents/NextAnswers nova.cc.purdue.edu 128.210.7.22 pub/next/docs sonata.cc.purdue.edu 128.210.15.30 pub/next/docs Make sure you have about two megabytes of free space on your disk, then su to root in a Shell and type the following: mkdirs /LocalLibrary/NextAnswers cd /LocalLibrary/NextAnswers ftp hostname-or-IP-address [see table above] [Login:] anonymous [enter your own login name as the password] ftp> cd directory [see table above for the directory name] ftp> binary ftp> get NextAnswers_July_90.tar.Z ftp> quit zcat NextAnswers_July_90.tar.Z | tar -xvf - This will create a subdirectory of /LocalLibrary/NextAnswers called July_90. Inside July_90 will be a WriteNow file called INSTALL.wn that contains complete instructions on how to finish the installation. There is also an ASCII file NextAnswers_README on the archive servers in the same directory as NextAnswers_July_90.tar.Z. It contains the same instructions as this message and a list of the changes from the previous release (which is also present within the tar'd directory as a file called CHANGES). Note that the July release of NextAnswers is again a replacement for the previous release, not just a supplement to it. In response to several requests, however, we will start with the next release of NextAnswers to provide not only a replacement, but also a supplement, since the latter form can be downloaded and indexed more quickly.
