Ok, back by popular demand, an updated, expanded, new and improved list of SIMM sellers with prices for 1 Mb and 4 Mb SIMMS with both toll free numbers and the usual kind. These are all U.S. sources. Note these prices are as of August 2, 1990. Good news on 4 Mb SIMMS is that the price has dropped again with Chip Merchant leading at around $250.00 (but other places will follow, especially if you call and mention that). A few sources were dropped from the previous listing since I couldn't find them anymore. This group appears to be fairly stable. Get that memory while its *HOT*. .. I just purchased 2 4M SIMMs from Memory Plus at the price mentioned in the article ($299). But to my surprise I found that they could not be installed in my cube. Their dimensions are such that they prohibit the reinsertion of the motherboard! They are too high and hit the drive chassis. Local NeXT folks have informed me that this will be the case for any 4M SIMM on the market. They told me that Toshiba is rumored to be developing chips that will fit. They also gave me instructions on how to mutilate the backplane in such a way as to allow the insertion of the motherboard in the far right-hand slot. This voids the warranty, but it is a fairly simply procedure. Is it true that no 4M SIMMSs on the market will fit into a NeXT???
