[net.auto] net.driving/net.auto.tech

jeepcj2a@fluke.UUCP (Dale Chaudiere) (09/16/85)

For you new folks, there is a desire to split net.auto so technical discussions
may be separated from other auto related discussions. One of the two new news
groups below could be formed.

net.driving net.auto.tech
___________ _____________

Dale Chaudiere, FLUKE Pat Vilbrandt, FLUKE
Jack Hagerty, Zehntel Automation Sys.	Mike Graham, AT&T Technologies
Chris Meier, Honeywell SRC
Mark Bernstein, Texas Computation Cen.
kitten@NCAR

I need more responce than this before I formally propose a new news group.
If you have an opinion on the matter, please reply.

Count me in for net.auto.tech. The only thing I can see wrong
with net.driving is that that is a VERY generic grouping. If the desire
is to restrict that group to automobile driving entries, it would probably
be better to call it net.auto.d or some such thing. If you wish to open
the discussion group to ALL drivers (e.g. motorcycles, etc.), then
net.driving is fine with me. Let's get the technical stuff in a technical
grouping, and win one for the Gipper.

I'm not sure what significance there is in the grouping of various
individuals under the two net groups listed above. Maybe there isn't
any, but just to clarify, in my recent posting I was offering my support
for the *general* idea of spinning off a new group. I'd be interested in
subscribing to both, perhaps... but if it is important for individuals
to be "listed" in one group or the other to get a formal request through
I would prefer to be listed as a "charter member" [if that's what this
is all about :-) ] of the new net.auto.tech group.

I'm for a split (as soon as possible)! net.auto.tech sounds great to me.
