[comp.sys.next] Objective C "mini-course" slides updated/available

gerrit@nova.cc.purdue.edu (Gerrit Huizenga) (09/25/90)

A little over a year ago I taught a short course at Purdue on Objective C
on the NeXT. For this course I whipped up a set of notes in WriteNow and
made them available in the archives. Since then I've cleaned them up and
extended them quite a bit and have just made the new FrameMaker based
version available on nova.cc.purdue.edu in pub/next/docs/ObjC.frame.Z
and ObjC-frame.ps.Z. I think these versions are significantly improved,
although they are still really intended as overhead slides.

The slides are intended to help teach people about the basics of Object
Oriented languages and provide an introduction to Objective C. The last
half of the documentation consists of a trimmed down version of NeXT's "how
to read a spec sheet" and a couple of sample spec sheets. If you have
suggestions about the slides, please let me know; on my next pass I may get
a chance to reintegrate any new ideas.

If there is sufficient interest, I have another set of slides covering the
basics of PostScipt and how to use it on the NeXT. Again, the material is
at the introductory level and is not a substitute for reading all of the
provided materials and references available on the topic. Again, if you
have suggestions, please let me know.

There is also a set of documentation for my local "Intermediate Objective
C" which may be released some day; however, it has a long way to go before
it is clean enough to be useful. Again, depending on interest, I may do
some work on it yet this year.
