We are contemplating an engineering undergraduate computer lab of about 30 NeXTstations here at the University of Alberta. This decision will be contingent, amoungst other things, on the availability of DOS emulation and Fortran. SoftPC is supposed to be ready in the first quarter of 1991. Has anybody any information on the compatability of the emulation? If the Macintosh version is an indication, users here tell us that it only emulates the 8086 processor, while we need something that will support programs running on 286 and 386 machines which use a lot a floating point computation---i.e., we need coprocessor support. Does anyone know about site licensing of SoftPC? Does anyone have Absoft f77 in a lab environment? Were you able to obtain a site licence agreement? Is Absoft f77 as good/bad as Sun F77 v1.3? I will summarise any replies and repost to this news group. Thanks, -- W.
