If you would like to change the font you are provided with by default in shell, bring up a shell and at the prompt enter: dwrite Shell NXFixedPitchFont "Font" where you replace "Font" with either Helvetica, Courier or Ohlfs according to your own taste. Then enter: dwrite Shell NXFixedPitchFontSize "Size" where you replace "Size" with say 12, 14 or 16, again according to your own taste. To check teh changes you have made to the lookup tables, you can enter: dread -l | egrep NX Now quit and restart the shell application and you should notice that your new choice is now the default. I would think that a preference window with font selection would be a nice addition to shell. For more information this, consult the file 10_Support.wn under /NeXTLibrary/Documentation/NeXT/SysRefMan. You can bring up WriteNow use the find panel to search for "Font" and/or "dwrite" to get in the correct general vicinity. I found it interesting that when I tried Digital Librarian with "Font and shell" in the query box, with "Use Index" turned off, and with the Next manuals as the target, 10_Support.wn was NOT found. Is this a bug, or was it operator error? -- " ...and just who was Ken Thompson, anyway? Do you remember?"
