I need to play, in real time, a MIDI keyboard connected to NeXT,
and I wonder whether somebody knows of something better than
/NextDeveloper/Examples/MusicKit/MidiPlay.
MidiPlay with Pluck, as bundled, works so-so, but when Pluck
is replaced by Wave1i, the response time is so bad that it
becomes next to useless. In addition, the keyboard - NeXT
relationship is hidden in a message ("connect"), and it is
not clear how to change defaults (e.g. sensitivity to initial
key velocity), how to manipulate individual notes etc..
The README file says "Note that we are working on improving the
performance for applications such as this", so I tried to find out
how this is dealt with in 2.0, but the fellow who has the beta
release here at UW cannot let me have a look at it because he
had to sign a non-disclosure statement!
