How does the SUN IPC compares price/performance with the new offering by next? I believe the IPC comes with 205MB and color monitor and sells to academia for around $4.5K? Is this correct? - Fernando

The unit LISTS for $9,995, and has a current government price (quoted me at the FCC show) of about $7,200. I'm out of the University scene (sigh!) so have no idea what educational prices are in effect. The biggest single advantage of the IPC is that it runs the wealth of Sparc software. The included color monitor is a gorgeous Sony 16". According to the vendor, about half of the 205MB drive is free for use. NeXT offers nothing between and 105 and 340 MB hard drives, and the latter is an expensive upgrade. Both provide very comprehensive base operating systems and utilities, including networking support. Both are a helluva lot better than anything I'm currently using!
