Yes, you can type "hostid" and get a string back that is guaranteed to be unique for the machine. You can also call something like gethostid() (see man pages). This can be used for a licensing scheme like the way FrameMaker licenses nodes on a Sun network. -Robert Lin <rlin@cs.ubc.ca>
