During lunch yesterday, I had the idea of grabbing a copy of the Karpov-Kasparov match from rec.games.chess and putting up the game visually on our NeXT machine. But after going into the program, selecting "Preferences" and indicating that I wanted to play human vs human (with the appropriate names), the program asked whether I wanted to start a new game with these preferences. I indicated, "Yes", and then played Karpov's first move (white pawn from file d moves from rank 2 to rank 4; in notation: d4). But before I could enter Kasparov first defensive move, the program insisted on playing its own move. I could not find a way to reconfigure the program so that the machine would cease and desist. Is this a bug? Why can't we just use the graphics to put up the game.
