[comp.sys.next] Bits and Bobs - mostly Bobs

In this month's issue of Byte, there is an ad for Maxdor hard disks.
I rang the company up to enquire about prices and was told that a 760 M
disk was < 2000 Dollars. If people are interested, I'll dig out the ad and
post the details.

On the new NeXT machines - i.e station and dimension there is a SCSI 2 port.
Does anyone know the pin configurations? I want to connect a SCSI device
which has D type 50 pin port to the cube.

A friend of mine was looking for a SCSI to IEEE board to enable him
to drive a PCR (slide maker). To buy the board from the US costs ~ 1400 dollars
but to buy it here in the u.k. costs ~1350 pounds which is ~ 700 dollars !!
It's amazing how much these distributers mark up prices.

Has anyone had success using quarter or half inch tape archivers with the cube?
According to NeXT all you have to do is find a SCSI device in /dev and use tar
with that device. I am a bit concerned about buying a tape archive in the
hope that the above method will work.

I have been thinking about how to exploit the MACH's multi threads.
One obvious way would be to use the new 040 board with the old 030 board,
I asked NeXT in the U.K. if this was possible and was told that it was
unlikely as the boards had different revs. This seems a great pity.
