Our campus bookstore prices on NeXT cpu's (no monitor or keyboard) are rather interesting when you compare with other systems. These are the NeXT prices (cpu only): NeXTstation 8 MB ram 16 MB ram 32 MB ram 2.88floppy 105 MB drive $2345.00 $3635.00 $5689.00 2.0 software 2.88 floppy 340 MB drive $3979.00 $5005.00 $7059.00 2.0 Extended This is a $4714.00 difference from low-end cpu to high-end cpu. The *retail* price difference here is $6500.00. For the NeXTstation Color (cpu only) NeXTstation Color 12 MB ram 16 MB ram 32 MB ram 2.88 floppy 105 MB drive $3210.00 $3895.00 $5945.00 2.0 software 2.88 floppy 340 MB drive $4575.00 $7650.00 $7315.00 2.0 Extended Price difference from low to high end is $4105.00 The difference in SMRP's is $10,650-$4650= $6000.00 The thing that looks interesting to me is buying the the NeXTstation color cpu and hooking it up to a B&W MegaPixel until I can get the color monitor. (B&W MegaPixel is $695 edu price here). Can it be done?? NeXTcube 8 MB ram 16 MB ram 32 MB ram 2.88 floppy 105 MB drive $4665.00 $5695.00 $7745.00 2.0 software 2.88 floppy 340 MB drive $6035.00 $7060.00 $9115.00 2.0 Extended 2.88 floppy 660 MB drive $6720.00 $7745.00 $9795.00 2.0 Extended Two 1.4 GB 32 MB ram 64 MB ram drives 2.0 Extended $15,011.00 $19,091.00 High end - Low end here is (not counting the GB drive configs) $5130.00 Using third-party drives and memory you could upgrade the low end 8 MB cube to the two gig drive 64 MB machine for another $11,520.00 or $10,640 if you start with the 16 MB version. Total cost would be $16,185.00 starting with the barebones 8 MB or $16,335.00 starting with the 16 MB ,105 MB drive machine. Want to add the big drives as externals? Add $500.00. This is a very reasonable price for a very adequate server system (no keyboard-monitor incl). -Bill
