[comp.sys.next] Information on NeXT machines, etc...

unhd (Thomas J. Baker) (10/19/90)

Hello,

I am seriosly thinking about buying a NeXTstation Color but I had a few
questions. Does the NeXTstation Color have the same i860 processor as the
NextDimension to speedup color PostScript to the screen or does it depend
solely on the '040 for graphics processing? What size drives can the
NeXTstations take? Are they half-height or full? It doesn't make alot of
sense to me to pay $2000 more for a 340 Mb drive from NeXT when you can get
much larger ones for the same price. Is it possible that NeXT will pass on
the savings of the new Mactor drives to potential buyers (535Mb for $1450)?
Does NeXT use Maxtor drives? Can a NextStation be purchased without a hard
drive? (Can one boot utilities from a floppy?) What is NeXT credit? What
does becoming a NeXT developer require and what are the benefits?

Thanks in advance for any information anyone can give.

tjb
