A few questions concerning DAT vs. tape drives attached to a NeXT: 1. Can a DAT be mounted as a filesystem, like an OD, or is it treated as a tape device that accepts only tar and dump commands? 2. I have heard rumors that the drive mechanism on DATs is prone to failure after about a year. Is there any evidence that the drive mechanisms on DATs are more prone to failure than, for example, exabyte type tape systems? 3. Are software drivers available for DATs connected to NeXTs? 4. Any favorite manufacturers or vendors for DATs? Thanks, steve frank steve@fisher.bio.uci.edu
