After posting similar messages in comp.sys.mac.misc and comp.sys.next about the pros and cons of a NeXTstation vs. a Mac, I have decided to forego my experience on the Mac and make my first computing investment in a NeXT. I did not intend to start another NeXT vs Mac debate; I was simply trying to sort out all the (dis)advantages for each system. For my purposes, I realize that there is no comparison -- for price/performance, NeXT is it. I hope Apple realizes that there may be many more migrations to NeXT (or future systems) unless Apple makes some real innovations. I've sensed stagnation there for awhile, but didn't want to admit it. I will continue to use the Mac II at work for graphic design and enjoy it, but Apple has lost a serious Mac evangelist. If someone told me just two weeks ago that I would seriously consider buying a computer other than a Mac -- especially in the light of their new low-cost computers -- I would have thought them mad. But the discussion of the NeXTstation in Mac groups gradually gained my interest, and I began to seriously investigate. Now that the decision is made, I would appreciate some e-mail detailing the NeXTstation, including hardware/software specs and reasonable educational prices. Also, what about the NeXT laser printer? What's the price? Are there any other printing options? Service bureau support? Thanks in advance.
