[comp.sys.next] Huge lpd

geoff@desint.itcorp.com (Geoff Kuenning) (11/07/90)

"ps aux" lists my LP daemon as occupying 16 meg of virtual space. This
seems just the teensiest bit excessive to me, since I don't print much,
and print mostly enscripted ASCII. My window server is only 10M, and
the kernel task is 14.4M (which I presume is due to having to maintain
page tables).

Why is lpd so huge? Does it have a known memory leak? Can I regain a
lot of virtual space by killing it and restarting it? I care because
I don't have a lot of spare space for a huge swapfile.
