[net.auto] Electric clutch in auto. trans.

langet@ecn-pc.UUCP (Timothy Lange) (10/16/85)

I just purchased a '85 Chevy Celebrity with a four cylinder
automatic. In the owner's manual it talks about an electric
clutch in the transmission. While accelerating I feel the
transmission shift through all three speeds, then later when
barely accelerating and usually going over 40 mph I feel
something like another shift, the engine speed drops noticeably
and speed increases. Is this last `shift' my electric clutch
engaging and eliminating slippage normally in an automatic
transmission?

By the way, I have put 1200 miles on the car so far, 220 mi. of
in town driving. Using cruise control on the highway I have
gotten a total average of 32 mpg, with a one tank high of 36.8 mpg.
