Somebody recently enquired about the feasability of implementing a 9600 baud modem using the DSP. Someone else wanted to know what the hardware and software overhead was. I can't directly answer these questions, but I remember that in one of the volumes from one of IEEE ISCAS (Internat'l Symposium on Circuits & Systems) from this year (yeah, i know, that probably only narrows it down to about twelve huge volumes) contains a description of a fast modem implemented using a TI DSP chip. Ok, ok, so its not the 56000. However, the paper does give an idea of the hardware overhead--i believe all they needed was pulse shaping filters. I don't have the time to go digging thru stacks and stacks of conference proceedings (anymore), but I'm sure someone out there does and can post the exact reference.
