I've been running for about a year now with a USR HST 9600, operating only at 2400 baud to my nearby (one and only) uucp neighbor. However, the great MIS gods have smiled upon me, and they have said "We have this leftover Telebit T1000 which you may have for your NeXT computer if you so desire." Naturally, I jumped at the chance to add some real speed to my uucp communications. However, I have no idea how to configure the beast to work correctly, and don't really want to spend hours hacking on it trying to figure it out. Yes, I have the manual, and I intend to go through that and see what they say about UUCP, but I figured that if someone out there in net.land has already hacked through everything, you might feel some great warm fuzzy feeling in knowing that you could save a fellow NeXT user from having to figure it all out from scratch. So, here's what I'm looking for: What does my cable need to look like? I'm presently using an old Macintosh modem cable that I previously hacked to (I believe) move one of the handshaking lines from DTR to DCD (but I'm not completely sure of this - it might have been the other way around). I should be able to reconfigure this cable as might be necessary, but a cable pinout would be most helpful in figuring out how. Also, I'd like to know what settings I need to send the Telebit. I have (so far) had all of my modem initialization and dialing instructions contained in my L.sys file - as in I do everything with AT commands in the L.sys entry to set up the connection to the remote site. I realize this may be unusual, but hey, it works. If I can continue to do this with the Telebit I would be very happy. So, can anyone help? Surely someone out there has gotten a Telebit running on a NeXT before now... Post if you think it's appropriate, or send email to me. If others are interested, I can select the "best" reply (or simply cat them all together) and post it back to the net and/or to the archive sites... --Steve -- ----- Steve Lemke, Engineering Quality Assurance, Radius Inc., San Jose ----- ----- Reply to: lemke@radius.com (Note: NEW domain-style address!!) -----

There's only one company that can sell you UUNET access in the Los Angeles area, and that's UUNET Technologies, Inc. They're operational in northern California now; Los Angeles is forthcoming. > Or internet access? UUNET (as AlterNet) will when they come to L.A. If you need it "now" I think your only viable option is CERFnet's "DIAL n' CERF" service. I don't have information on what PSI's up to.
