[comp.sys.next] Color NeXTStation Monitor

fsjcb1@acad3.fai.alaska.edu (BEAVERS JAY C) (11/15/90)

I'm looking to buy a NeXTStation here in the near future, but I need some
information to help me make the final decision on whether to splurge and get a
color NeXTStation or to go with mono. Basically, I own an IBM clone and I
intend to own another one in the near future, and I'd like to know if I can use
the display for the color NeXTStation to help defray the costs of getting a high
resolution monitor for my second IBM.

I'd like to know two things. Can the Sony Trinitron that comes with
the NeXT be used on an IBM if it is equipped with a VGA card capable of
displaying 1024 by 768? I've called NeXT on this one and they gave me a flat
out 'No, it can't be done', but it seems ludicrous to me that there is no VGA
card that could work with this monitor unless it takes a very proprietary
signal.

On the other hand, could I buy a multisync monitor capable of 1024 by 768
and attach this to the NeXT, thereby saving the cost of buying two monitors
that way? Certainly something like the NEC 3D or 4D could work with a NeXT,
even if a cable has to be tailor made!

Thanks in advance, please send email replies and I'll summarize to the net.
