I bought an Honda Accord LX a few months ago. I'm pretty satisfied with it but I could've spent less money, I suppose, which brings me to the question of the CRX. I was wondering how owners of the CRX felt about the car's performance. For example, my speedometer indicates a maximum speed of 120 mph, whereas I've seen CRX speedometers indicate 140 mph. I don't see how a Civic CRX can go faster than an Accord LX since the Civic CRX has a 1.5 liter 4 cylinder engine whereas the Accord LX is 1.8 liter/4 cyl. Does the CRX rev even lower than the Accord LX? (I can get up to about 80 mph at 3000 rpm in fifth gear and the car doesn't complain in the least, but I haven't tried to go any faster than that.) Again, I don't see that since the CRX tires are smaller. At any rate, I'd be curious to see if anyone considers the CRX to be a superior car to the Accord LX. I'd like to point out one drawback: the CRX is a two-seater which makes life rough if you have a lot of passengers, but I was thinking maybe a two-seater wouldn't be so bad so no one could bum rides off me :-) One other question: I see the Honda '86's are being announced. Do they plan to come out with a turbo this year or anytime soon? I'll post results to the net. -- It's like a jungle sometimes, it makes me wonder how I keep from goin' under. I also own an Accord LX 4dr (mine is an early '84 though). But I did test drive a CRX si when it came out, so I thought I'd put my 2 cents in. >I was wondering how owners of the CRX felt about the car's performance. >For example, my speedometer indicates a maximum speed of 120 mph, >whereas I've seen CRX speedometers indicate 140 mph. I don't see how >a Civic CRX can go faster than an Accord LX since the Civic CRX has a >1.5 liter 4 cylinder engine whereas the Accord LX is 1.8 liter/4 cyl. Believe it. The CRX si is both quicker (acceleration) and faster (speed) than the Accord. And the difference is not too subtle. First, the CRX is much lighter than the Accord. About 1800 lbs for the CRX, versus 2350 for the Accord (ballpark figures). Second, the CRX si is fuel injected. It puts out about 90hp, versus 86 for the Accord. (I don't have the brochures, so this is all from memory) Of course a fuel injected 1.8 liter engine (101 hp) was available for the '85 Accord, but only in the overpriced and overpremiumed SEi sedan. >Does the CRX rev even lower than the Accord LX? Again, I don't >see that since the CRX tires are smaller. No, the CRX revs much higher than the Accord. The Accord was geared to maximize fuel economy and minimize engine noise at highway speeds. If you tried to push your Accord past 80, you would find that it runs out of steam at about 90-95 mph (in fifth), which is still under 4000 rpm. The CRX si gearing yields better pickup, and probably a higher top speed as well. >At any rate, I'd be curious to see if anyone considers the CRX to be a >superior car to the Accord LX. The Accord is much safer in an accident, is more comfortable, has more features and rides quieter and softer. The two cars are targeted for different drivers: the Accord is a family sedan, the CRX si is a beer budget sports car. >One other question: I see the Honda '86's are being announced. Do they >plan to come out with a turbo this year or anytime soon? No, I haven't heard of a turbo in the works. The big change in the Honda line this year is the Accord. It has been restyled and fitted with a new engine and suspension. Displacement is now 2 liters, and the top of the line sedan and hatchback are fuel injected (110 hp). If you are waiting for more car from Honda, the Acura line is supposed to be introduced later this year. Rumors have it that there will be a 6 cyl. luxury car co-produced by Honda and British Leyland, a mid-engine sports car, and a couple of other goodies upmarket of the current Honda line.
