REDWOOD CITY, Calif. -DJ- NeXT Computer Inc. said it has begun
on-schedule
volume shipments of its NeXTstation 68040-based computer.

The 15 MIPS NeXTstation computer has a list price of $4,995 for a
complete
system that includes floppy and hard disk drives and NeXTstep software.

In addition, NeXT said it has begun shipping its NeXTcube computer,
a 68040-based version of its cube-shaped computer, as well as 68040 CPU
boards to upgrade existing 68030-based computers. The NeXTcube has a
suggested retail price of $7,995.

The company also said its two new color computers, NeXTstation Color
and NeXTdimension, will be shipped on schedule in the first quarter of
next year.

If this is on-schedule, I'd hate to see when we'd have gotten it if
it was late :-)

Seriously, you who have these machines, get on the horn. If you've got
them set up, yet, and get get those drooling NeXT-lovers off of them.
I've seen lots of it in pre-release format, but would like to hear
how the actuality comes off.

Looks like I can take my foot out of my mouth now 8-)
I'm still wondering how NeXT got hold of a bunch of 040 chips so soon.

What sane person gets up this early 8-)

Ashton Tate has a NeXTStation. It is very fast. compiles of PowerStep
go 2 to 3 times faster, the product (which was fairly snappy anyhow)
really screams on the '040. For that matter, everything does. Even
(GASP!) FrameMaker! Yes, the ultimate FrameMaker upgrade is an '040!
It makes the product run at an acceptable speed! 8-)

<< BTW, Frame-Dudes your product is really cool, just kind of slow on the
030, no need to go berserk, make refrences to glass houses or get mad
about any bloodthirsty comments again.... >>
8-)

So Yes... It is reality.
