[net.auto] Unleaded gas in leaded-gas engines

digrazia@nacho.DEC (10/24/85)

Since I prefer not to spray lead salts and fumes all over the
place, I've been wondering whether it's wise to use unleaded
gas in my 1979 Saab (non-turbo, of course...).

The owner's manual for my chain saw advises against using
unleaded gas because the octane boosters are benzenes, or
some such horrible aromatic. They dissolve various non-metal
components of the chain saw's engine.

Would the Saab's engine suffer a similar fate?
