[comp.sys.next] 2.0 *partial* build onto 148meg drive?

dlw@Atherton.COM (David Williams) (12/06/90)

Is there anyway under 2.0 to do a partial build of the system?

I have a 150 meg CDC drive (148 meg formatted) and build recognizes and
initializes the drive, calcs the directories its going to install, on the
drive and hums away...then discovers that there is not enough disk space
to put everything on the drive. Seems like it wants about 184 meg or so.

I noticed that one of the things it is setting up is a 16meg swap area...
I have a cube with an OD/40 meg swap drive so I would think that if I could
specify what I don't want, this swap area would be part of it. But, build
does not let me do this a la say the Macintosh Installer program.

I essentially want to have the OS/IB on the hard disk and have the ability
to mount and use Mr. Floptical as well.

So is there a hidden command key to toggle on prompting for doing partial
builds?

If not, it should be a feature added soon. I would think many people would
like to be able to have just the OS (for example) on a hard disk and the
rest of their environment available to them on an optical or multiple
hard drives chained to the nextstation or the cube.

So anyone have any advice on this?

thanks in advance....
