The excitement continues! I got my 040 upgrade board yesterday, and it's working today. However, I wanted to pass along the one problem I had, in the hopes that it might help other folks if they run into it. I had already upgraded to release 2.0 of the software a week before, and I used the UpGrade2.0 app that keeps you from having to rebuild your disk. The upgrader works really well. It looks at the modification dates on all the files it wants to update, and checks with you if you have modified any files as to whether you want to keep them or use the new versions. Anyway, apparently UpGrade2.0 forgets to write the boot block on the SCSI disk, which doesn't affect anything on the '030 system, but it keeps the system from booting when you put in the '040 board. The solution in my case was to boot from the optical disk and then issue the following command before putting the '040 board back in: disk -b /dev/rsd0a I won't guarantee your success with this, but it did the trick for me. The solution to this problem came from NeXT Technical Support, who were extremely prompt and helpful. -- Glenn Reid RightBrain Software glenn@heaven.woodside.ca.us PostScript/NeXT developers ..{adobe,next}!heaven!glenn 415-851-1785
