Looking back through my saved copies of the recent discussions on third party hard drives that people have used in the NeXT, I find that many of the articles do not indicate whether or not the drive may be installed internally in the cube as a boot drive. What criteria must a drive meet in order to be usable as an internal boot drive on a NeXT cube (1.0?, 2.0?)? My second question is: what affect will the 040 have on data throughput to and from a hard drive. For example, assume a drive with a 16ms access time offers "acceptable" performance on an 030 cube. What kind of performance hit could one expect if the same drive were installed in an 040 cube (assuming the 040 is 3 to 4 times faster than the 030)? I realize that this question only makes sense if one defines what one means by "performance" - so just include your definition of performance in your response...
