-------------------------------------------- 340 MB Hard Disk Drive Replaced by 400 MB HD -------------------------------------------- NeXT has decided not to ship the 340MB Hard Disk Drive. Now, a 400MB hard disk drive will ship in place of the 340, at no added cost. There will be NO PRICE increases. The 400MB HD will be sold at the same price and discount schedule as the 340MB drive and will provide you with over 60MB of additional storage space at no extra cost. Preloaded with the extended version of Release 2.0 Software, the new disk drive leaves more than 180MB of free user space. I don't believe NeXT has shipped any 340MB systems, so everyone who ordered a NeXT with a 340MB configuration will receive a 400MB drive instead. The following lists which software release is loaded, free user space, and the list price for individual drives if you buy them separately. DRIVE MODEL RELEASE USABLE SPACE LIST PRICE -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 105 MB Hard Disk drive Release 2.0 25 MB $ 995 200 MB Hard Disk drive Release 2.0 107 MB $1,995 400 MB Hard Disk drive Release 2.0 Extended 180 MB $2,995 660 MB Hard Disk drive Release 2.0 Extended 405 MB $3,995 The bad news? Shipments of the 400 MB systems will begin about a month from now. --- DISCLAIMER: I do not speak for NeXT Computer, Inc. If anyone hears anything about the performance specs of the new 400 MB hard drive, be sure to let us know. There are a few of us out here who *did* decide to forego to joys of setting up an external hard drive on a 105MB system! Too bad about the wait.... Tom Dr. Thomas B.
