I'm having the following problem running Emacs(the windowed version): I compiled version 1.1 of Emacs and tested it and it was working fine, except for mouse support since I had not yet installed those files. I then: 1) Became 'su' and mv Emacs to /LocalApps renaming it 'emacs' 2) Installed the lisp and term files is /usr/lib/emacs/lisp and term. 3) Renamed emacs in /usr/bin to emacs.org 4) ^D out of su (in Stuart 2.0)--here is where some problems began (I seem to remember I shouldn't use ^D, but I'm not sure) Anyway, anything I did gave an error (grop or something like that), so I quit the shell. Now everytime I run Emacs (*any* window version, even 1.0) I get the error "Couldn't exec the shell". (emacs.org runs okay). I have tried the following: i) Run it as root--same error. ii) Delete Emacs and remake it. iii) Delete all the files, copy in a new tar file and remake it. iv) Delete all files, power down, start over, remake it. v) I even remade 1.0 in a separate directory. But everytime I run it (*any* version) I get "Couldn't exec the shell" (the window and icon pop up for a flash just before the error.) Anyone know what I did and how I can get out of it? HELP! Thanks in advance, Charlie
