[comp.sys.next] drivers for floppy drives

Where are there examples for writing device drivers, particularly
for controlling 3.5" floppy disk drives?

Would it be possible to write a driver for the NeXT floppy disk drive
which read Macintosh or Amiga formatted disks?

If one wrote a program which did this, would it have to be run as
root?
