If you don't want to buy the expensive new 'extra density' floppies for the NeXTstation, (amazingly enough) the NeXT is happy to accept and build a Unix file system on lower density floppies. (Independent of its DOS capabilities and without punching extra holes in the floppies). Of course the capacities are proportionately reduced as well (I've included Macintosh capacities for comparison purposes only): Unformated Macintosh NeXT Unix DSDD 1.0 MB 800 KB 525 KB DSHD 2.0 MB 1.4 MB 1.25 MB DSED 4.0 MB 2.64 MB So, if you're transporting (possibly compressed) software that can fit into 1.25 MB, you can get away with a much cheaper floppy. And, if you buy 3M high density diskettes, they come in black to match! - Christopher
