[comp.sys.next] Two questions re: modem and microphones

Ah, being on break gives me just *so* much time to come up with all of these
silly questions...

Anyway, I have two of them now.

One: Why the he** does the NeXT give me login failures on whatever port my
modem is hooked up to, sometimes? It works just fine for a while, then I
can't tip any more (/dev/cu[ab]: device busy; Link Down or somesuch). The
only way I've been able to fix this is to power down *and change the modem
port*; just powering down then up again doesn't fix it.

I don't have the serial line as an alternate login place in the monitor prefs.

Two: How can one digitize stuff at a resolution greater than 8Khz? I have
my stereo plugged in to the headphone jacks, stereo connections all the way
of course, and have CD output. 8Khz ain't that hot; do I have to get some
extra hardware for the DSP port, or will better software do?

I guess that's all for now... :-)
