[comp.sys.next] High capacity Floptical drives

A few issues back, BYTE surveyed the up-and-coming floppy
disk technologies.  Interesting stuff.  Especially the
20.8MB 3.5" Floptical part...

BYTE just featured one of these drives in 'Microbytes' (Jan. '91,
pg. 32) from Insite Peripherals.  At $325 each, and backward
compatibility with old 1.44 & 720K formats, this would seem
to solve a lot of our backup and distribution problems.

Perhaps this type of drive could be tweaked to support 2.88MB also.

I wouldn't be suprised to see NeXT shipping these drives early
this summer.  The way I see it, the 2.88MB format is just a
temporary stepping stone until the right technology arrives.
