Well, I have my NeAT new NeXTStation home and set up now. I was a happy camper, and got even happier after I got a cable run to the Hayes Smartmodem 2400 that I had been using with my PC clone, and got dialout working. Up to this point I was living in blissfull ignorance of the Warning on the bottom of page 187 of the Network and System Administration manual. Well, to make a long story short, dial-out works fine, but dial-in is proving to be a bit of a hang-up. I have used earlier sugestions from Mark Adler to get the modem to respond reasonably to DCD and DTR. My /etc/ttys file and /etc/remote reference /dev/ttydfb and /dev/cufb where appropriate [NOTE: it seems that having the f to use the hardware flow control solves the /dev/cub: Device Busy problem]. My question is, has anyone else gotten dial-in working with a Hayes Smartmodem 2400? If so, what am I not doing? One more note, my testing of dial-in has been done with a 1200 baud internal modem that I had on the PC, and two phone lines (the machines are sitting right next to each other). The getty changes to a login -p <insert garbage> after the connection is made. The PC shows garbage (different from the login) on its screen. Any help would be very appreciated. Mail might be best, since I am having trouble keeping up with news now that classes have started again. Thank You. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Richard Beach @ Colorado School of Mines Golden, Colorado USA I-Net and BitNet : rbeach@mines | CS/CH or : rbeach@slate.mines.colorado.edu | UUCP : ...isis!csm9a!rbeach |
