Is there anyone who does board-level NeXT repairs? One of our out-of-warranty '030 cubes has a faulty processor and the campus 'bookstore' will only repair it by replacing the CPU (over $1100) which seems a bit excessive since the failure mode suggests that just a single chip has gone. Anyone know? BTW, if you have out-of-warranty '030 cubes that you're debating whether to upgrade to '040s or not, I'd urge you to do so. We don't have any upgrade boards ourselves yet (though we do have 'slabs') but if your '030 fails on you you'll find the repair cost to be slightly greater than the upgrade cost. And since I assume NeXT doesn't want broken '030 boards sent back to them in the exchange, you might want to upgrade now and avoid heartaches later (and get a fresh CPU warranty in the process). - Christopher -------
