[comp.sys.next] DPS and the file operator

glang@Autodesk.COM (Gary Lang) (01/23/91)

Thanks to everybody for pointing out the obvious way that an
operational in DPS could cause problems. As it turns out, my NeXT is
off the net here because of the 2.0 upgrade which I didn't have time
to finish. So I'm back to the Sparc for the day I'm out of the office.

So imagine my surprise to receive attachments with EPS files in them
(I took them apart on my Sun).

Some of the code embedded in the EPS attached files was designed (it
appears) to change my .login file in my home directory to remove files
the next time I logged in. I get the point but you lose. I caught you.

I am slapping my forehead over this one; I simply wasn't thinking. Nor
was the person who allowed this to be the case. I am curious about
this though...does it work? I don't have time to futz with it.

Anyway, I got the message from several people who spent more than 3
seconds thinking about it.Thanks. And to the 2 people who sent these
erstwhile "viruses" to my machine...have a nice day.
