I am a physics student who intends to buy a NextDimension. I want a LOT of
storage space available (for animation) that I can readily access, and I have
decided to achieve this by getting a 1GB WORM drive this year and a big hard
drive next year.
Two Questions:
1: Do you think this is a sensible way to start?
If I got a big hard drive this year, I would also need to get a tape
backup system, which (from the funding available) would mean something
like 760MB total hard storage now plus a 2GB tape drive. This would
be a fine system, except that I would still want to get a WORM drive
next year, leaving me with a $600 SCSI tape drive to sell. Besides
that, I don't think I would get another hard drive next year if I
followed that path, leaving me with 770MB rather than the total of
1.5GB I would have otherwise had.
If I go ahead and get the WORM drive, I'll be stuck for a year with
memory-intensive computer that has only 100MB of ERASABLE memory avail-
able.
So which would you choose?
2: Is there a WORM drive you would recommend, and could I stick one inside
a NextCube? Please include prices for the drives and disks.
I think I'll cheat and ask a third question:
Is there an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) that you would recommend
for a NextCube? Please include price.
Thanks
