[comp.sys.next] Wren ST4766N Troubles

alandail@applelink.apple.com (Alan Dail) (01/26/91)

I recently purchased a Wren ST4766N to use as an Internal hard disk on my
NeXT Cube. After spending many hours trying, I cannot even get the drive
to spin up. It spins up fine when connected to a Mac IIfx. Has anyone
installed one of these drives internally to a NeXT? Is there something I'm
doing wrong.

I installed the terminators from my old swap drive, connected the power and
SCSI cables, and powered up. The only thing that happens is the light on
the front comes on and never goes off. When I put it in the mac, the light
comes on for a second and then goes off and it spins up. If I reconnect
the swap drive, it spins right up.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,

Thanks to all of you who offered help with my drive. It turns out that I
was simply missing a jumper. The drive now works just fine as an internal
boot drive. MUCH, MUCH faster than running off of the OD.
