[comp.sys.next] WordPerfect Edu Prices?

paullu@cs.UAlberta.CA (Paul Lu) (01/27/91)

Will there be special pricing for university students on
the new WordPerfect for the NeXT?

Any information would be much appreciated.

Thank you,

Here's what a WordPerfect salesman told me:

$495 list
$395 educational for personal purchase
$495 for 8 right-to-use, educational for genuine instructional use.

This price schedule reflects their philosophy for edu pricing for the
PC version as well, though in the case of the NeXT the "personal purchase"
cost is disproportionately high.

You'll buy it for whatever price you can find, and then send in a card for
a $100 refund.

I was told by a WP salesman that the Ed price is $100 off of "retail", which
can depend on the retailer. I think one gets a coupon from WP. The
salesman expected the actual retail price to be more like $250 from
BusinessLand which would bring the Ed price down to $150. He said that
this is the way they handle Ed sales of DOS WP. WP used to sell direct
to students/staff for $125 but they don't do that anymore.

In talking to the folks at the Ohio State computer store, it appears that this
deal will apply to all systems MS-Dos, Mac, and NeXT. They are trying to give
the SCHOOLS/DEPARTMENTS a good deal but avoid channel conflicts with their
other dealers.
