OK, This is stuff I should have put in my summary, that I forgot. SO: The drive comes with a five year (48 hr replacement?) warranty from Fujitsu. The access time is 16ms (average) and the throughput is 770K/sec. The throughput numbers are on an 030board. I have been led to believe that the 030 uses asychronous transfer while the 040board will support synchronous transfer. I'm not certain this is true, but am willing to believe it. As a result, I expect those numbers to go up with my 040 upgrade. (If someone has one of these drives hooked to an 040 and has the right jumpers installed, I'd be interested to hear the throughput rates.) As far as noise goes..... It is kind of hard to give a good feel. It IS quieter than the optical, both in background and seeking noise. Seeking, however, is audible from outside the Cube. "Dead Quiet" are not words one would use to describe this drive. I suppose it depends on what you are used to. If you like things completely silent, go for another drive. If you work with a radio on, you'll probably never really notice it. And if you work with headphones on you will certainly not notice it. If there are any other questions, feel free to send me email. -Chris songer@ecn.purdue.edu
