Several days ago, I posted an article requesting information on good fax/phone switches. I would like to thank all those who sent me suggestions and ideas. Anyways, I decided to call up a local fax equipment dealer today and voila, it must be my lucky day! They happen to have ONE trial unit of Faxmate 3000 and they sold it to me for $120 (Canadian)! This unit works exactly as a good fax/phone switch should, and more! It picks up the call on first ring and listens for CNG (generated by incoming fax), and if the CNG is present, it routes the call to the fax machine or fax modem, otherwise, it can be configured to ring the call through to an extension telephone and/or answering machine (depending on configuration). There are also manual overrides for all the features.
