dbrenner@sparta.weeg.uiowa.edu (Doug Brenner) (02/01/91)
Over the past two weeks, I've looked at 111 fonts from um-mts.cc.umich.edu and 5 from sumex-aim.stanford.edu. Of these 116 fonts, I rejected all but 52. (Most that I rejected did not have AFM files.) I packaged each font into a standard format and divided them into two groups: those usable at no cost (32 total) and those that are shareware (20 total). The included Makefile should work for installing the fonts under NeXT Software Release 1.0 or 2.0. (I am running 2.0, hence I have been unable to validate performance under 1.0.) There may be more usable fonts at Michigan; I only checked those that the index seemed to indicate were laser or PostScript fonts. (If you'd like a list of what fonts I checked send me a note.) Available from: Site: nova.cc.purdue.edu OR sonata.cc.purdue.edu Directory: pub/next/misc Files: Fonts-1.0-free.tar.Z AND Fonts-2.0-sw.tar.Z Oregon (cs.orst.edu) is currently have problems with disks filling up. As soon as space is freed up, I should be able to get the fonts over there too. Each file unpacks into it's own directory. Within each directory is a ReadMe.rtf and a Makefile. See the ReadMe.rtf for more font descriptions and installation instructions. (You may also find comments in the Makefile of interest.) Good luck and I hope you find these useful. -dcb Doug Brenner <dbrenner@umaxc.weeg.uiowa.edu>
