[comp.sys.next] NeXT memory

Hi,
I've got a quick question about memory on the slab. The local next
salesman told me that the memory, due to the interleave, must be matching
in sets of four. Meaning, I cannot use two four meg simms to get 8 meg
but must use 8 1meg simms. In the same vein, if I want to upgrade from
my 8 1meg simms, the lowest cost alternative I have is to sell all the
1 meg simms and put in 4 4meg simms. (Gee, bet I'll get alot for 8 1meg
simms :) Maybe I'll go to 20Meg instead.)
With this in mind, how does the color slab have 12 meg standard?
Does it have more slots on the board for memory upgrade? Is the interleave
different? Given the info I have is correct, there is no way to get a
12meg mono slab. Is my information wrong, have I missed an alternative?
If not, how is there 12Meg on the color slab?

Thanks,
Chris

I seem to have lost my files on installing simms on the NeXT. Can four
4meg X 9 simms be installed with four of the 1meg X 8 simms that are installed,
or do I have to replace all eight simms?
Please email responses. Thanks in advance.
