Amazing, the power of the INTERNET! Within hours of my plea to the net, NeXT tech support had gotten back to me about the problem. We solved it in about 10 minutes over the phone. Seems that there was an extra partition noted in /etc/fstab that, of course, didn't exist on my disk, causing the boot sequence to halt, leaving me in single user mode. Thoughtlessly, I deleted all the mail that I received on the subject so I can't thank anybody by name, but you know who you are anyway. Thanks to the zealous campus consultant at Texas A&M ( I think it was A&M ) who got in touch with NeXT on my behalf. Thanks to Andreas (sp?) at NeXT tech. support ( the guy who diagnosed the problem ). Finally, thanks to all those on the net who replied with suggestions. My faith has been restored. - Max ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- William R. Herndon Secure Computing Technology Corp.
